I LOVE QUIRINO PROGRAM

CONTINUING THE FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER AND MALNUTRITION

With the desire of the provincial government, together with all nutrition advocates of the province to lessen if not to totally eradicate malnutrition and hunger problem in the province, an intensified and unified approach of addressing this issue was formulated.

The “I LOVE QUIRINO,” - flagship program of the previous administration, under the leadership of former Governor, now Congressman of the province, Hon. Dakila Carlo E. Cua, was adopted and continuously implemented in the province. CARAVAN Project implementation, as one aspect of the I LOVE QUIRINO is planned to be opened for its second round of implementation by first month of the year and expected to reach all barangays.

The “I LOVE QUIRINO,” as was then finalized as the flagship program of the provincial government of Quirino down to the municipal and barangay level. As with the CARAVAN project during the previous administration, the current program is also a multi-sectoral/holistic approach of planning and implementation of projects and activities for all the sectors of the government but with other additional services offered diabetes screening by the Quirino Provincial Hospital, giving of pregnancy package by the Department of Health and “Libreng Gupit” by the Philippine National Police .

Quirino, inspite of being a young province in Cagayan Valley (Region 02) is a promising province with dedicated officials/leaders committed to the development of its populace. This could be started by having sustainable food production, job opening and livelihood project opportunity in the area. Quirino is not considered a food poor area; however, food security is one of the top priority of the provincial government to prevent hunger as well as combat malnutrition.

Aside from the regular projects and activities of the provincial government, special projects were also organized under the I LOVEQUIRINO program: the Comprehensive Approach in the implementation of Relevant and Accessible projects/ activities/services Vital for community's Advancement and progress through Networking of various sectoral programs (CARAVAN) project and the Quirino Livelihood for Everyone (Q-LIFE) Project.

In general, the I LOVE QUIRINO program is a holistic approach of project implementation. All offices of the Provincial Government including National Agencies and Non-Government Organizations are conducting its projects/activities – as one team/partners delivering services to the barangay folks during CARAVAN project implementation or  barangay visitations with the package of projects/services of:

Health, Nutrition Education and Social Services projects
Agriculture-Food Production projects and veterinary services
            Livelihood projects
            Population Management and Development
Infrastructure Projects – farm to market roads

All the projects stated support nutrition program in general concept.
